Experience in Drumheller
Royal Tyrrell Museum Tour
The Royal Tyrrell Museum is not just the largest display of dinosaur skeletons in the world, it is, in the fullest sense, a landmark institution. Built directly into the badlands terrain that has yielded more dinosaur specimens than almost any other site on earth, the museum houses over 40 fully-mounted skeletons in galleries that sweep through 3.9 billion years of life on earth. The centrepiece Cretaceous Alberta gallery is genuinely overwhelming: a vast hall filled with Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Edmontosaurus, and dozens of other Cretaceous giants arranged in dramatic, scientifically-accurate poses. The museum's active research program means new discoveries are regularly incorporated — staff palaeontologists work in a glass-walled lab visible to visitors. Allow at least 3 hours; serious visitors often spend 5–6. Weekend guided tours (included with admission) add significant depth. The gift shop is one of the best museum shops in western Canada, not just with dinosaur toys, but serious books, fossil casts, and specimens.
